Expendables 2 Update

Story by Nick Newman on http://thefilmstage.com/news/liam-hemsworth-is-expendable-too/
The whole point of The Expendables was to get several 80's action stars together, since audiences would enjoy seeing people like Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren together again onscreen — as long as you ignore the fact that younger stars like Jason Statham and Terry Crews are members of the team.

Well, some more young blood is being integrated into the group, with Variety reporting that Liam Hemsworth, brother of Chris, will be joining the cast. The part bestowed upon the Hunger Games actor hasn’t been revealed, but you probably don’t care, in all seriousness. It’s still interesting to think about what this might mean; there’s obviously a reach for female demographics, but it might also be an attempt to keep the franchise going for the next few installments. If your leads are getting too old to perform in any kind of action scene, having someone like Hemsworth around would definitely help out. That’s merely a guess, though, so don’t put too much thought into my speculation.

Other members of Simon West‘s cast include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, Mickey Rourke, Randy Coutre, and possibly Nicolas Cage & John Travolta. In spite of my complete and total lack of enthusiasm for this film, my interest would immediately go up if those latter two were involved — it would at least make things a little funnier.

The Expendables 2 opens on August 17th, 2012.
