It really doesn't matter to me if a movie is released in IMAX or not, but I suppose it's a big deal for a certain contingent out there. Personally, it takes a cinematic event of epic proportions to make me fork over 19 bucks; I don't have one of those money trees growing in my backyard...
In any event, IMAX Corporation and Corporation and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that UNDERWORLD AWAKENING 3D will be released to IMAX digital theaters simultaneously with the film's worldwide release in January.
The IMAX release of UNDERWORLD AWAKENING will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of "The IMAX 3D Experience" with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology.
Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.
UNDERWORLD AWAKENING was directed by Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein and stars Beckinsale, Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley and Charles Dance. It opens in the U.S. on JANUARY 20, 2012.
