As Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme are confirmed for The Expendables 2, might John Travolta and Nicolas Cage be edging closer to signing up?
Oh, now this should be fun. It had been rumoured previously that John Travolta was on the wishlist of potential recruits for The Expendables 2. Now? It seems like there’s really something to it, with an added, very welcome dose of Nic Cage.
With the cast already including the likes of Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews, it’s firstly been officially confirmed that both Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme are on board. We thought that had been confirmed already, to be honest with you, but perhaps it hadn’t. Either way, both are in the movie.
But, according to an interview with Sylvester Stallone in Entertainment Weekly, they all might be joined by both John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. Yep, the same Nicolas Cage who made Con Air with director Simon West. The same Simon West who’s directing The Expendables 2.
Let's not forget, too, that Travolta and Cage have appeared in an action movie together before as well. Thus, if Cage and Travolta get cast here, we expect a bloody good Face/Off gag in the script.
Stallone suggested that Travolta’s appearance is “possible”, but it sounds as if Nicolas Cage might just be closer to happening. Yet he’s tempered some words with a note of caution. "The one thing I’ve learned is what is a fact on Monday is a complete fallacy on Tuesday. A lot of it is scheduling. It’s not financial. It’s just that Bulgaria is definitely a jaunt. It’s a commitment, you know what I mean? Especially in the dead of winter.”
The film starts shooting in Bulgaria in the next few weeks. We’ll bring you more on The Expendables 2 as we get it.
