With X-Men: First Class beginning its DVD and Blu-ray roll-out (it arrives in the UK at the end of next month), producer Lauren Shuler Donner has been nattering a bit about the state of the franchise. And in an interview with Hitfix, she offered an update on the planned Deadpool spin-off movie.

It can’t just be us that’s thinking this is the latest X-Men spin-off, after X-Men Origins: Magneto, that we’re simply not likely to see (although First Class obviously rendered the latter just a bit moot). In the case of Deadpool, Tim Miller had been announced as the director, and Ryan Reynolds is still linked with starring. So, er, where’s the film?

“We’re working on getting it ready, and presenting some things to the studio, cause we’re gonna give it a little bit of a different look”, she told the site. “It’s a different kind of movie. If you know Deadpool, it’s true to Deadpool. So you know, it’ll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that. So we’re sort of putting it all together now”.

That’s hardly a ‘we’re shooting it in the next few weeks’, but at least there seems to be some life in the project yet. Next on the X-Men roster is The Wolverine, for which shooting appears to have been pushed back even further, to next summer. That means we should expect The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman, in the summer of 2013.
