Supernatural Creator Adapting DC's Deadman for CW

Story by Eric Goldman on http://tv.ign.com/articles/119/1190772p1.html

What could be the next DC character to come to The CW, now that Smallville has ended? The choice is an interesting one, as Deadline reveals Deadman is being developed as a potential series. In a fitting pairing Supernatural creator Eric Kripke is writing and executive producing the project, about the spirit of a murdered man, Boston Brand, who can now possess the bodies of others. Per usual for most DC adaptations, the project comes from sister company Warner Bros.

Last year, Kripke was attached to another comic book adaptation from Warner Bros. and DC, The Sandman, that never got off the ground – though that project was never attached to a specific network.

In 2009, Deadman was nearly made as a feature film, produced by Guillermo del Toro and Don Murphy and directed by Nikolaj Arcel.

Last month I asked CW president Mark Pedowitz if the network still intended to develop other DC characters and he replied, "We are looking next year to do superheroes if the right superhero comes to be. Having Warner Bros. as one of our partner companies and them having DC Comics makes it very intriguing to find the right superhero to go there."

The one project we knew CW was developing last year was Raven, based on the Teen Titans character. While nothing seemed to come of that, this news about Deadman confirms that there still may be life (even if it's via the undead) for DC at the network.
