Die Hard 5 changes director, heading for Russia?

It looks like John McClane and his son are heading to Russia for Die Hard 5. But the original director has now left the project.

It’s all change on the planned fifth instalment in the Die Hard franchise. Bruce Willis has long since said he’d make a Die Hard 5, with a Die Hard 6 possibly to follow (which would, in theory, at least, end the franchise). And things seemed to be moving ahead when Noam Murro was hired to direct Die Hard 5.

However, Murro has since been confirmed as the director of the 300 prequel, Xerxes, and as a consequence of that, he’s had to quit the Die Hard 5 job. That’s left the search on for a director of the movie, and according to Twitch, it looks like John Moore has got the job.

This is the same John Moore who directed Behind Enemy Lines, the remake of The Omen, and the quite terrible Max Payne movie. However, it’s worth remembering that many people had written Len Wiseman off as the director of Die Hard 4.0, and yet, his final cut proved to be really rather good.

As for the film itself, Twitch has learned that the film is going to be set primarily in Russia, and this time, John McClane will be there with his son. Die Hard 4.0, of course, involved McClane’s daughter.

There’s still no firm idea of when production will begin, and Moore hasn’t, as of yet, signed on the dotted line. But when he does, expect things to ramp forward for a possible summer 2013 release.
