The George Lucas-produced Red Tails gets a new poster, and it has planes on it.
Most Hollywood posters have looked like autumn days in Skegness of late, with grey skies and smouldering glances from lead actors currently in vogue. The new poster for Red Tails sidesteps such trendy moodiness, and instead brings us a riotously colorful aerial dogfight that looks like a cross between a Roy Lichtenstein's famous Wham painting, and the cover of a 1990s Sega Mega Drive shoot-em-up.
As for the film itself, Red Tails sees Hollywood return to that sorely neglected subgenre, the plane-based war movie. With the power of modern-day computers behind it, Red Tails features the kind of epic-scale aerial combat that could only be hinted at in the golden age of dogfight movies.
The debut feature of Anthony Hemmingway, previously known for his TV work on such shows as ER, True Blood, The Wire and Community, Red Tails stars Bryan Cranston, Cuba Gooding Jr, Ne-Yo and David Oyelowo.
Since we’re huge fans of both WWII planes and pipe smoking, we’re rather looking forward to Red Tails, which is set to dive-bomb UK cinemas in early 2012.
